Match Maker was contracted to provide technical support to Oxfam GB in 2009. Oxfam was working in three districts to build sustainable livelihoods among rural and peri-urban communities by focusing on improvements in smallholder agriculture and access to markets. Match Maker was tasked with researching the local and regional markets for two commodities – mushrooms and pineapples – in order to gain a deeper understanding of the production, marketing and profitability dynamics in each of the sub-sectors. Match Maker provided Oxfam with a thorough assessment of the two sub-sectors and proposed a number of business models that can be implemented, along with clear profitability and risk analysis models.
