Rural Household Economic Empowerment Project

In 2010 Match Maker undertook a final assessment of the three-year Rural Household Economic Empowerment Project in Kisumu Region, which had been implemented by the Inter Diocesan Christian Community Services (IDCCS) with funding from the Interchurch Organisation for Development Cooperation (ICCO).

Help Self Help Center (HSHC)

In 2008 Match Maker assessed the ‘Fair Economic Development Programme’ of the Help Self Help Center (HSHC), which is a local non-governmental organisation that supports forest-adjacent communities to benefit from sustainable agriculture and natural resource utilisation. Our assessment focused on their promotion of edible (sunflower and canola) and non-edible (cape chestnut) oils.

Markets for the Poor

Match Maker worked for the Anglican Church of Kenya in 2007 to assess the pilot project ‘Markets for the Poor’, which formed a component of their Eldoret Region Christian Community Services (ELRECO). Emphasis was placed on analysing the supply chains that were being promoted by the project and how they could be further strengthened. Match Maker returned in 2009 to provide another assessment of the Anglican Church’s ELRECO, this time for their Economic Livelihood (ECOLIVE) project, which had focused its efforts on dairy and potato farmers.

FairMatch Support

In 2007 Match Maker researched a ‘quick scan’ for FairMatch Support, a Dutch non-governmental organisation that promotes sustainable and fair trade. The focus was fairly traded cashew nuts spanning both the Kenyan and Tanzanian markets. (www.fairmatchsupport.nl)
